Grimsby Town Football Club; My First's

For a little while now i've been writing blogs about Grimsby, on and off. Recently, i've 'Fallen back in love' with blogging. So now i think it's about time i write and share my Grimsby Town Firsts.

First Game; Saturday 30th November 2002. Grimsby Town F.C. 1 V Leicester City 2 in the old English division 1, now known as the Sky Bet Championship. Think this is when they had Muzzy Izzet and Tim Flowers them kind of players, with Mike Dean refereeing the game.

First Grimsby Kit; Was this number, from 2003-2004. Looking back, i quite like this shirt, if i remember rightly as a young kid i wasn't overly keen on it but now, i wouldn't complain

First away game; 23 August 2003 v Luton Town, Grimsby won 2-1 with goals from Iain Anderson and Michael Boulding. That season we was relegated in 21st Position from what is now Sky Bet League One.

First Grimsby Town idol; A no brainer for me personally, First Grimsby Town Idol was naturally John Mcdermott who spent his whole 20 year playing career at the Mariners, becoming our record appearance holder in the process. Throughout his 20-year career, McDermott has experienced promotion or relegation nine times.

First time i cried over Grimsby; Was i believe after Burton away 8th May 2010, losing 3-0 at the Pirelli Stadium confirming our relegation to the Blue Square Premier where we would stay for a long time.

First Non-Grimsby player who 'Wowed' me; Easily to say Jamie Vardy, watching him then i would never of imagined he'd hit the heights that he has.

First time i knew Grimsby was my team for life; This one is a strange one, again as with Vardy as a young kid i never knew what Grimsby meant to people, what it meant to supporters but as i grew up and learnt more, I learnt, football is more than a game, it's more than a way of life, it's not just strangers sat in a stadium (What i'd give for that now) it was a family, we all love Grimsby, we was all there for the same reason, to watch and be apart of the team we all love so much. as the great Bill Shankly said "Some people believe football is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that"

First time i was properly took back by an away stadium; Is it to much of a cliche, if i say Stamford Bridge? Yes - we lost 7-1 but i was impressed with Chelsea's stadium granted they've put ALOT of money into the club.
